program overview
Learner-Focused
Each student benefits from a tailored learning experience free from traditional homework and arbitrary testing constraints. We go beyond conventional academic boundaries to prepare our students for the real world. Our curriculum emphasizes effective communication, collaborative team-based projects, and essential life skills. Whether our students are gearing up for college, entering the workforce, exploring the world, or launching entrepreneurial ventures, we equip them with the tools they need for success in all aspects of life. This holistic approach ensures our learners are not just academically proficient but also socially, emotionally, and practically prepared for the diverse challenges and opportunities they will encounter in their futures.
Do You Accept IEP’s?
Yes. We will request to review the IEP in advance to ensure we are adequately staffed to handle each child’s unique circumstances. You can expect complete transparency regarding our ability to meet your family’s needs.
Testing?
We don't rely on traditional testing to gauge student progress. However, we do administer MAP testing three times a year to monitor individual growth and provide a relevant comparison with peers nationwide and at the same grade level. This is also how students are grouped together for lessons.
What About Homework?
At Vanguard Learning, homework is not a regular requirement; instead, we occasionally suggest after-school activities aligned with students' individual or family-established goals, and while not expected, we support and encourage students who choose to invest extra time in enjoyable projects outside the classroom.
“We must truly consider this mysterious and wonderful creature which the adolescent is because adolescence, one can say, is not only a period of growth but a great transformation – if you like, a creation.”
— Maria Montessori; 34th Lecture, 1938
